A pure malt whisky from Sasanokawa Shuzo featuring notes of cherry, oak combined with an earthiness. The "Pure Malt" indicates that no grain whisky has been used for this bottling and features components matured in Virgin Oak, Ex-Bourbon & Oloroso Sherry Cask Matured whiskies for reportedly over 5 years. It also has a component of peated malt at 50 ppm. Their own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles with bulk spirit imports replacing their own production through these times.
Nose: Sweet caramel with fresh green apples, tropical fruits like banana and cherry crumble pie. Palate: On the palate, some definitive sherry notes along with creamy vanilla and nuts. Finish: Subtle peat that rears its head towards the finish. A balanced vatting of malts with an overall rounded profile.

Matured in bourbon barrels for about 6 years and a further finishing in Sakura (Cherry Blossom Tree) Casks for about 1 year, only 300 bottles were released.
With a beautiful light golden hue and an exquisite balance of fresh tropical fruits, citrus, green apples and floral sweetness, honey wax, there is a certain earthiness which gives way to a hint of saltiness and spices at the back. Did remind us of Sakura Mochi as we were sipping on this whisky! A rare bottling given the time spent in Sakura Casks.
Their own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles with bulk spirit imports replacing their own production through these times.
Please also note that no Box is available. The bottle and seal are in a good condition. Some faded pale marks on label. Sold in "As Is" Condition.

This bottle snagged a silver medal award in the 2024 Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition. In 2022, the distillery won the "World's Best Blended Malt" at 2022 World Whisky Award and this is their Single Malt release for 2023.

This incredibly unique and fruity Shochu, very appropriately named after their Toji/Master Distiller – Mr. Nobuhisa Yasuda was first released in 2013. Using unique methods to make a 100% Imo Shochu using Sweet Potato ("Imo") as the main ingredient and Imo Koji - from Tsurunashigenji Imo, creates a more aromatic and fruity Shochu compared to the usual rice ("Kome") koji.
Sweet and rich aroma of fruits on the nose (some obvious lychee, hints of peach and perhaps some strawberries). Delicate, fruity, smooth and balanced while retaining the flavours of sweet potato on the palate with a warming finish, some dark chocolate bitterness and a very pleasant after taste. Chill the bottle and serve straight up or on the rocks. Pairs perfectly with a variety of food.

Discontinued along with other aged statement whiskies from Nikka, Yoichi 10 is the youngest of the Yoichi range that was available earlier. Using peated malts in direct fired stills, this has been bottled at a higher than usual ABV of 45%. It received a score of 93 points in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2013 edition.
Nose: Peaty smoke, sweet malt, and subtle fruit, with hints of brine. Palate: Full-bodied with smoke and spice. Finish: Long and warming, with lingering smoke and sweetness.

Yoichi 15 Years Old Single Malt Japanese Whisky is matured for 15 years in a combination of American oak and possibly sherry casks, enhancing its complexity and depth of flavor. Jim Murray in Whisky Magazine, Dec 2000 rated this whisky 9.5/10. Whisky Fun scores it at 87 points. A very bold & complex whisky with a long finish.
Nose: rich aromas of dried fruits like figs and raisins, honey, and vanilla, complemented by smoke and subtle spice. Palate: a harmonious blend of fruitiness, sweet malt, and oak, with layers of spice and a hint of peat, resulting in a full-bodied, creamy texture. Finish: long and warming, leaving lingering notes of fruit, honey, and gentle smokiness, reflective of the distillery’s coal-fired production methods.

Yoichi is Nikka’s first distillery which was built in 1934. Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru was keen on making whisky which was similar to scotch given his training in Scotland. Hokkaido was a obvious choice was this distillery given the similar climactic environment as Scotland. Yoichi Single Malt is characterized by subtle peat smoke originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation combined with the hint of saltiness delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process.
