Paul John

Founded in 1996, John Distilleries is headquartered out of Bangalore in Southern India. While originally focused on making blended whisky, in 2008, it decided to produce its Single Malt Whisky in Goa near Mumbai in Western India. The tropical monsoon climate aids in the faster maturation along with a higher angel's share of 8-10% per year. Using Indian 6-row barley, the new spirit is matured in a variety of casks including charred American White Oak barrels in their two warehouses in Goa itself.

Nose: A light citrus with manuka honey arrives early; an intense malt is infused with ripe peach, apricot and vanilla. Palate: Superb mouthfeel of rich creaminess. The oak delivers a soft, sweet, delectable butterscotch. Finish: Warm spices suffuse the toasted oak, and the slightest of saltiness ensures the friendliest of finishes. Unpeated and non chill-filtered, the Mithuna has been matured in American virgin oak casks and finished in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at an impressive 58% ABV.
