Talisker Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Talisker Distillery is one of the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye, it is set on the shores of Loch Harport Carbost, with dramatic views of the Cuillins, Scotland. Producing a sweet, full-bodied single malt.

The distillery was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. All the stills use worm tubs (condensing coils) rather than a modern condenser, which are believed to give the whisky a "fuller" flavour. During this early period, the whisky was produced using a triple distilling method, but changed to the more conventional double distilling in 1928. Talisker was acquired by Distillery Company in 1925 and is now part of Diageo.

Introduced in early 2015, this release is named after the island on which the distillery us located. A more rounded Single Malt it is reportedly matured in a variety of casks with a larger proportion of toasted American Oak casks giving it a sweet flavour profile packed with fresh citrus and sweet smoke making it a very approachable Whisky, yet with the traditional character of the distillery.

Awarded the 'Best Single Malt Whisky in the World' at the World Whiskies Awards in 2007. A great balance between peat, spices such as black pepper and sweetness. Color: Amber Nose : Rich and fruity with dried orange peel, rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind. With water, some sea/maritime/seaweed notes emerge. A very special release from The Isle of Skye's Talisker Distillery, for which adventurer James Aiken carried some barrel staves on a solo trans-Atlantic journey tracking the same same route taken by Talisker Team's 3264-mile rowing challenge. Once these staves came back from their eXPEDITION, they were then inserted into 10 casks of whisky which have been aged for at least 43 years, creating a unique finishing process that further infused the whisky with the spirit of the sea. The 1830 bottles released are a homage to the founding year of the distillery and the packaging includes a piece of the actual stave.

Nose: Mellow overall and slightly spicy, with a fruity top note of bruised apple and a smooth, aromatic hint of wax. Beneath these scents lie intriguing rich layers of aroma; notes of canvas and varnished wood mingle with maritime hints of sea-air and warm sand, all swirling above a faintly smoky and waxy base. Palate: A smooth testure and a vibrant, juicy start introduce a sweet, rich, intensity with a fresh, balancing splash of ocean salt spray. The effect becomes lightly drying before Talisker's peppery warmth envelops the palate. Mesmerising overall, it cascades with smooth, rich flavour and is very good to drink neat. Finish: Really long, with a considerable sweet chill-pepperwarmth that suffuses the whole palate. (Tasting Notes from the Producer)
