Nose: Floral sweetness, lemon, vanilla and soft peak smoke. Palate: Lemon and citrus, butterscotch sweetness and hint of saltiness on the back. Finish: Long and clean with waves of citrus fruits and maritime peat smoke.

Showcasing the unique character of the long fermentation in wooden washbacks of the Asaka Distillery, this Single Cask has been matured in a First Fill Bourbon Barrel (from Early Times Kentucky Bourbon) #20033 for more than 6 years.  The whisky is bottled at its natural cask strength of 61% ABV. Unchill-filtered and uncompromised, it captures the vivid, authentic character of the whisky straight from the cask. Only 190 bottles have been released across Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Taste: Candied sweetness, Some nuttiness followed by salted caramel and spices. Finish: Long with warm spices like cloves and cinnamon.

We would highly recommend to add water to see how this whisky evolves beautifully with enhanced citrus and sweet mandarin notes combined with some baked tarts balanced with some minerality and saltiness. A very enjoyable whisky indeed.

This lovely peat smoke whisky promises a unique and memorable tasting experience.

"Tamashii" is Soul  or Spirit in Japanese. Bottled by Mizunara for its 4th anniversary, matured in refill bourbon barrel. Subtle peat smoke, charcoal ash & earthy notes combined with sweet vanilla, honey, citrus and fresh tropical fruits like banana. Vanilla sweetness combined with a saltiness that finally gives way to peppery notes and spices such as cloves and hints of dark chocolate. Nice long and complex finish.

A limited release of 251 bottles worldwide with the label designed by a Japanese artist Kenro Shinchi. WhiskyFun rated 85 points (SGP 564) Extract "Mouth (neat): it’s really good, I’d almost call this ‘good thin peat’. Limoncello, oysters, ashes, riesling, mercurochrome ...With water: same, while the body got bigger rather than thinner once water’s been added. Comments: very good for sure, just rather ‘hesitating’."

Whisky Fun Extract: Colour: mahogany. Nose: this is more old-school than the House of Lords. Not talking about the Scotch whisky. Prunes, old cognac, dates, chocolate, figs, whiffs of moss and old pine wood, a few mushrooms and a little liquorice, plus a few roasted nuts, especially pecans. Mouth: we're deeply reminded of some old Speyside malts by G&M. Like pre-war, bottled in the 1970s and 1980s. It is a time machine! More bouillons, chocolate, pipe tobacco, liquorice, truffles, puréed chestnuts, pears poached in Sauternes, very old Sauternes, very old Malaga… It is definitely very 'antique'. I would love to watch young whisky enthusiasts tasting this whisky, or similar whiskies, for the very first time. It would undoubtedly be a real revelation, as they are becoming so rare. Finish: rather long, rather sublime to tell you the truth. Comments: as I sometimes say, we could spend hours sipping a magnum of each to try, and fail to decide which one, between the Kinship and the Silver Seal, is our favourite. THE HACHI SHOCHU, Sweet Potato (Imo), Mizunara Cask Matured is a collaboration with Ookubo Shuzo, a family owned farm distillery in Kagoshima and Hacchan who, somewhere along the way was also exposed to Whisky and the benefits of Cask Maturation. Made from Grilled Kogane Sengan and Anno Imo, a fluffy delicious variety of sweet potato with a lovely aroma and golden skin colour (Yaki Imo), Kuro (Black) Koji and single distilled under normal atmospheric pressure (making it a Honkaku Shochu) to retain the flavors of the underlying ingredient, this Batch 5 has been matured for about 2 year and 7 months in Mizunara Oak to retain the flavour of the origin spirit while adding an extra dimension of complexity to  the nose, palate and finish. 

Mizunara Oak is unique to Japan and is infamously difficult to work with, given their grain structure which also makes it more prone to leakages but imparts very unique flavours that are not usually found in traditional bourbon and sherry barrels.

Color: Deep Gold Nose: Tropical fruits, incense, sandalwood, cedar and coconut with some subtle smoke balanced with sweet potato in the backgroud. Palate: Grated dry coconut, some banana and pineapple with a hint of oak spices, incense and sandalwood along with sweet potato flavours coming through at the back combined with subtle smoke.

Recommended way to Drink: Straight Up, On the Rocks or as a Highball (3 parts of sparkling water to 1 part The Hachi Shochu).

This is in fact a doublewood. We have combined whiskies matured in first fill bourbon barrels and PX Hogsheads, into a PX hogshead for a marrying period of several months.
