We estimate this to be a bottling from the late 1970s.

Given the date of the bottling, we expect a major component of this whisky to be Lagavulin.

This double oaked Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey from Woodford Reserve delivers a rich, soft and sweet vanilla and caramel notes balanced with some oak. Matured in charred oak barrels first like the classic Woodford Reserve, this is then finished in a second oak barrel  (new heavily toasted, lightly charred barrel). An awarded Bourbon. Color: Deep Amber Nose: Rich notes of dark fruit, caramel, sharp honey, chocolate, marzipan and toasted oak. Palate: A full-bodied mix of vanilla, dark caramel, hazelnut, apple, fruit and spices. This unique kentucky straight malt whiskey has a soft, sweet, nutty character. Unlike a typical 100% malt whiskey, this whiskey is crafted from 51% malt and aged in new charred oak barrels, making it similar to bourbon and provides a new experience for bourbon drinkers. Color: Warm Umber Nose: Soft nutty notes drizzled with light caramel and milk chocolate coat a layer of fruit character (apple, dried fruit, tropical fruit). Hints of brown spice, savory mint and brown sugar mingle with a rich note of freshly milled toasted oak Palate: Dark chocolate and caramel coated nuts are dried out with a dusting of cocoa powder and brown spice. A fruit medley brightens a trace of toasted coconut and rich, bright oak character. Finish:  Nutty and subtly sweet chocolate malt notes. Okinawa's abundant sunshine creates the ideal conditions for cultivating sweet and delicious pineapples. The Yaesen Sake Brewery harnesses these local pineapples to extract their rich juice, which is then used to brew authentic sweet pineapple wine.

This wine is characterized by its light golden-yellow hue and moderate sweetness, complemented by a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Yamaga New Born 2022 is a first release new-make whisky from Yamaga Distillery in Kumamoto, Japan, created to mark the distillery’s first anniversary. Located in northern Kumamoto Prefecture, the distillery makes use of high-quality groundwater and the basin’s hot, humid climate, with the whisky blended from spirits aged in bourbon barrels.

Released on 1 December 2022, it was bottled at 58% ABV in a 375ml format, with 3,421 bottles produced. As a young new-born spirit rather than a fully matured single malt, it showcases distillery character and early promise more than age-driven complexity. It is a blend of seven selected casks matured for around 7 months in bourbon barrels. Whiskybase rate at around 86 points.

Tasting notes from distillery: Aromas of green apple and osmanthus, along with roasted nuts and elegant malt flavors, create a delicate yet robust body. Aroma: Butterscotch, milk caramel, apple pie, blackcurrant, mint. Flavors: Silky, osmanthus, sponge cake, cashews, lemon cake, camphor, meringue, mitarashi (sweet soy sauce glaze)

Each annual release brings to life a chapter of the distillery’s history. The 2025 Edition focuses on the founder, Shinjiro Torii’s continued determination during the distillery’s construction and its early, challenging years. Rated 88+ on Whiskybase.

Color: Deep, radiant reddish-amber—hints of sun-ripened fruit and aged oak. Nose: Rich dried persimmon, warm clove spice, vanilla custard, and subtle dark chocolate; soft floral undertones (cherry blossom) and a whisper of smoky peat. Palate: Full-bodied and silky, with layers of orange marmalade, red bean paste sweetness, and dried fruit (raisin, fig); Mizunara oak adds sandalwood and coconut, while Spanish oak brings bright citrus. Finish: Long, lingering, and complex—smoky spice, dark chocolate, and a gentle umami warmth that echoes Yamazaki’s misty valley terroir.
