Amontillado is a dry sherry wine, darker than Fino and lighter than Oloroso and matures under a cap of flor and then exposed to the air for further oxidation. Toasted almonds and hazelnut are the classic aromas in Amontillado seasoned casks. Color: Rich auburn Nose: Very rich and fruity sweetness with notes of walnuts, almonds, some toffee and a touch of oak. Palate Soft sherry with a hint of caramel and a gentle finish of peppered nuts.

Originally launched in 2016 as a regular release within the Kavalan range, the Sherry Oak release uses the same Oloroso sherry casks used to mature the Solist Sherry expressions except that this has been bottled at 46% strength. Essentially a 46% version of the Kavalan Solist Oloroso Sherry release to be enjoyed straight up/neat. Dried fruits, nuts and raisins are the mainstay of this release.

Each year, the Distillery Manager at Laphroaig (John Campbell in this case) handcrafts a limited edition for the "Friends of Laphroaig" to celebrate friendship ("Cairdeas" in Gaelic). Released at Fèis Ìle 2015 to celebrate the distillery's 200th anniversary, 100% floor malted barley (from the distillery's own small malting floor) was used with the two smaller and older stills. Reportedly matured in ex-bourbon casks for about 11-12 years, this bottling captures Master Distiller John Campbell's vision of how Laphroaig was originally produced.

Initially matured in American White Oak casks, then transferred into ‘pipes’  which previously contained Port for a further period of maturation. Balance of sweetness and dryness, chocolate bitterness, a note of fresh mint with some hints of port and walnut (Tasting Notes from the Distillery). Score 83+ points on Whiskybase (225 votes). A great way to sample some older Glenmorangie.

Palate: Subtle sweetness and light, clear smoky and peaty. Finish: Medium long, some salty somky and warm.
