Single Malt Whisky & Blended Whisky

Whisky is derived from the Gaelic word ‘uisge beatha’, or ‘usquebaugh’, which means ‘water of life’. Gaelic is a part of the Celtic family of languages and spoken in the Highlands of Scotland.

While Whisky has been distilled in Scotland for very long, there is some evidence to show that distilling itself was brought to the country by Christian missionary monks. 

However, the earliest historical reference to whisky is around 1494 in the Scottish Exchequer Rolls, where there is an entry of ‘eight bolls of malt to Friar John Cor wherewith to make aquavitae (i.e. water of life). A boll was an old Scottish measure of not more than six bushels. (One bushel is equivalent to 25.4 kilograms)

The oldest aged whisky from the Miyagikyo range, this has already been discontinued. Produced from mild and virtually unpeated malt, this whisky starts off with apples and sweet oranges with oaky/earthy notes. The location for the Miyagikyo distillery was chosen for its high humidity levels. This particular bottling (estimated from around 2000s) has "Miyagikyou" on its label as opposed to later bottlings which spell it as "Miyagikyo".

Fresh citrus and stewed fruits. Very crisp, fresh and enjoyable and a great entry to the aged whiskies from this distillery located in Sendai in Northern Japan. Sadly discontinued and a rarity. This bottling (estimated from around 2000s) label spells "Miyagikyou" on its label and is an earlier version of the 10 Year Old bottling with "Miyagikyo" on its label.
