Bottled in 2014, this is a distillery bottling with 4530 bottles released by Diageo as a part of its limited releases. The distillery, one of the iconic distilleries in Lowland region of Scotland, was closed in 1993 (a year after this liquid was distilled) and is currently in the process of being revived by Ian Macleod Distillers. Released in 2012, this was the first of the Valhalla Collection/Series. 23,000 bottles were released. The Valhalla Collection captures Orkney's historical Scandinavian connections with Thor representing the Norse God of Thunder and supposedly the creator of the Cliffs of Yesnaby on Orkney's west coast. A great cask strength 16 year old malt bottling and presented in a wooden frame inspired by a viking long boat! Increasingly difficult to find.

One of the Key Malt bottlings from Yoichi, this is the older and the 12 Year aged version which is now discontinued.  The Key Malts represent the various styles of Whisky (in this case Peaty & Salty) which are produced at Nikka Distilleries and are included in the vatting of the various other Single Malts and Blends released by Nikka. Now a rare find.

Big sherry notes are quite obvious with muscovado, stewed apples, soft spice, juicy red fruits along with smoked meat. A chewy whisky with very long finish and salty undertones.
