This rare whisky comprises four different types of malt distilled in 1990 at the Yoichi distillery and aged for 20 years. A rich and deep aroma with a lasting peaty character and a distinctive dry finish. 3500 bottles were released in 2010.

Yoichi Distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru (who studied whisky-making in Scotland) in the small town of Yoichi, Hokkaido, is renowned for its commitment to traditional Japanese's whisky-making methods, particularly its use of coal-fired pot stills. This unique distillation technique imparts distinct flavors to the whisky, with the Yoichi 20 Year Old being a luxury bottle.

The Taketsuru range of bottlings usually use malts produced at Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. However, this 35 Year Old released in 2001 is likely to be predominantly include whisky from the Yoichi Distillery. It is one of the oldest & rare bottlings available (very limited, 700 bottles were released in 2001) with whiskies which were distilled in 1965 or earlier. Originally such releases were focused on the Japan market only.

Gently sophisticated, aromatic and fruity character, this whisky is smooth yet full bodied on the palate with an airy sweetness and a dry finish." Only 1000 bottles were released in 1998.

Then you have a desert with some vanilla ice cream and all sorts of fruits, mainly freshly cut pears and apples. Great notes of old rum and banana flambéed. Fantastic! This is a marriage of the East and the West. Legendary Mizunara Oak Casks which have been unique to Japanese Whisky,  travelled 6000 miles from Japan to Islay and sat in Bowmore's equally legendary No.1 Vaults to finish this remarkable creation.

Originally matured in Bourbon and Sherry Casks, which were then finished in Mizunara Oak Casks for about 3 years.

Mizunara Oak maturation usually imparts unique flavours of sandalwood and coconut. Bowmore Official Tasting Notes (Website) for this bottling. Color: Warm amber Nose: Spicy, mellow sweetness carried on a fresh ocean breeze Palate: Sweet vanilla, cedar wood, exotic mango and honey rose blossom Finish: Floral spice and fragrant smoke.
