Yoichi Distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru (who studied whisky-making in Scotland) in the small town of Yoichi, Hokkaido, is renowned for its commitment to traditional Japanese's whisky-making methods, particularly its use of coal-fired pot stills. This unique distillation technique imparts distinct flavors to the whisky, with the Yoichi 20 Year Old being a luxury bottle.

However, this 35 Year Old released in 2001 is likely to be predominantly include whisky from the Yoichi Distillery. It is one of the oldest & rare bottlings available (very limited, 700 bottles were released in 2001) with whiskies which were distilled in 1965 or earlier. Originally such releases were focused on the Japan market only.

They are usually small batch, single cask whiskies which are rare and aged and of exceptional quality. These series of bottlings were first launched in the late 1990s.

This is a marriage of the East and the West. Legendary Mizunara Oak Casks which have been unique to Japanese Whisky, travelled 6000 miles from Japan to Islay and sat in Bowmore's equally legendary No.1 Vaults to finish this remarkable creation.
Originally matured in Bourbon and Sherry Casks, which were then finished in Mizunara Oak Casks for about 3 years.

The Valhalla Collection captures Orkney's historical Scandinavian connections with Thor representing the Norse God of Thunder and supposedly the creator of the Cliffs of Yesnaby on Orkney's west coast. A great cask strength 16 year old malt bottling and presented in a wooden frame inspired by a viking long boat! Increasingly difficult to find.
