Kilchoman 16 Years Old is the oldest global bottling with a combination of 21 casks have been maturing for over 16 years. The predominantly ex-bourbon barrels with a hint of ex-oloroso sherry, creating a perfectly balanced single malt. With a marriage of both ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, this release showcases how the recognised Kilchoman flavours and character has developed over the last 16 years of maturation.
Nose: Delightfully rich with a creamy citrus sweetness and layers of cooked apples, pears, plums and nutmeg. This Single Cask was distilled on 30 April 2019 and bottled on 10 August 2022. After a full maturation in a first fill bourbon barrel this Single Cask was finished in a PX Sherry Butt from Miguel Martin, for a period of 6 months. A limited release of 880 bottles.
Nose: Rich and inviting aromas of ripe cherries, Christmas cake, and dark chocolate. Palate: A harmonious blend of sweet citrus and vanilla, complemented by the rich sherry influences. A peated Glendronach is not something that you see often though we must emphasize that it comes across as gently or lightly peated. Initially matured in bourbon casks and then into Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, this whisky leans more towards bourban cask flavors - honey wax, malty, floral, spicy notes and subtle smoky elements. More earthy notes than the usual islay smoke or maritime saltiness while retaining the character of the Glendronach spirit.

While 90,000 bottles were released then, it has been one of the hugely popular bottlings being a rich, dark and a delicious 12 Year Old to come out of this famous Speyside distillery. Matured in first fill Oloroso Sherry oak casks this delivers deep and rich notes of sherried fruits, dark chocolate and a range of spices. An increasingly difficult bottle to find.
