Showcasing the unique character of the long fermentation in wooden washbacks of the Asaka Distillery, this Single Cask has been matured in a First Fill Bourbon Barrel (from Early Times Kentucky Bourbon) #20033 for more than 6 years. The whisky is bottled at its natural cask strength of 61% ABV. Unchill-filtered and uncompromised, it captures the vivid, authentic character of the whisky straight from the cask. Only 190 bottles have been released across Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Pale Gold
Nose: A vibrant bouquet of fresh fruit aromas such as green apples, kyoho grapes, juicy pear and features notes of vanilla, honey, and lemon butter cake.
Palate: Cooked fruits, pears and peaches, with cereal and malty notes that evolve into rich salted buttery undertones with a very thick velvety mouthfeel
Finish: Lingering oak spices with a warm subtle sweet finish that leaves a lasting impression on the palate.

It has been matured for about over 3 years in a shochu cask and 2 years in a red wine cask at the Kanosuke Distillery warehouse. Bottled at an ABV of 61% this is a limited release of 258 bottles for the Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore market only.
The label designed by Artist Saumya Bharati and titled “The Rainbow Girl” is the second in the collaborative series with the same Artist. The bright colors of the rainbow celebrate the transition between the clouds & the rain to the warmth of the sunlight shining through the water droplets in the sky and the joy this very moment brings to the girl. We hope that the transition from the visual experience, aroma and of flavours from the front, to the mid and the back of the palate bring a similar joy to whisky lovers. Kanpai!

Subtle peat smoke, charcoal ash & earthy notes combined with sweet vanilla, honey, citrus and fresh tropical fruits like banana. Vanilla sweetness combined with a saltiness that finally gives way to peppery notes and spices such as cloves and hints of dark chocolate. Nice long and complex finish.

WhiskyFun rated 85 points (SGP 564) Extract "Mouth (neat): it’s really good, I’d almost call this ‘good thin peat’. Limoncello, oysters, ashes, riesling, mercurochrome ...With water: same, while the body got bigger rather than thinner once water’s been added. Comments: very good for sure, just rather ‘hesitating’."

We would highly recommend to add water to see how this whisky evolves beautifully with enhanced citrus and sweet mandarin notes combined with some baked tarts balanced with some minerality and saltiness. A very enjoyable whisky indeed.

THE HACHI SHOCHU, Sweet Potato (Imo), Mizunara Cask Matured is a collaboration with Ookubo Shuzo, a family owned farm distillery in Kagoshima and Hacchan who, somewhere along the way was also exposed to Whisky and the benefits of Cask Maturation. Made from Grilled Kogane Sengan and Anno Imo, a fluffy delicious variety of sweet potato with a lovely aroma and golden skin colour (Yaki Imo), Kuro (Black) Koji and single distilled under normal atmospheric pressure (making it a Honkaku Shochu) to retain the flavors of the underlying ingredient, this Batch 5 has been matured for about 2 year and 7 months in Mizunara Oak to retain the flavour of the origin spirit while adding an extra dimension of complexity to the nose, palate and finish.
Mizunara Oak is unique to Japan and is infamously difficult to work with, given their grain structure which also makes it more prone to leakages but imparts very unique flavours that are not usually found in traditional bourbon and sherry barrels.
Color: Deep Gold Nose: Tropical fruits, incense, sandalwood, cedar and coconut with some subtle smoke balanced with sweet potato in the backgroud. Palate: Grated dry coconut, some banana and pineapple with a hint of oak spices, incense and sandalwood along with sweet potato flavours coming through at the back combined with subtle smoke.
Recommended way to Drink: Straight Up, On the Rocks or as a Highball (3 parts of sparkling water to 1 part The Hachi Shochu).

Whisky Fun Extract: Colour: mahogany. Nose: this is more old-school than the House of Lords. Not talking about the Scotch whisky. Prunes, old cognac, dates, chocolate, figs, whiffs of moss and old pine wood, a few mushrooms and a little liquorice, plus a few roasted nuts, especially pecans. Mouth: we're deeply reminded of some old Speyside malts by G&M. Like pre-war, bottled in the 1970s and 1980s. It is a time machine! More bouillons, chocolate, pipe tobacco, liquorice, truffles, puréed chestnuts, pears poached in Sauternes, very old Sauternes, very old Malaga… It is definitely very 'antique'. I would love to watch young whisky enthusiasts tasting this whisky, or similar whiskies, for the very first time. It would undoubtedly be a real revelation, as they are becoming so rare. Finish: rather long, rather sublime to tell you the truth. Comments: as I sometimes say, we could spend hours sipping a magnum of each to try, and fail to decide which one, between the Kinship and the Silver Seal, is our favourite. This is in fact a doublewood. We have combined whiskies matured in first fill bourbon barrels and PX Hogsheads, into a PX hogshead for a marrying period of several months.
