This is the inaugural release from the Ontake distillery which has been matured in first-fill solera sherry butts and bottled in 2023. Non-chill filtered and bottled at a very approachable ABV of 43% this is an excellent and enjoyable Whisky from this new distillery in Kagoshima, Japan.
Color: Amber Nose: Aromatic dry fruits, figs and plums Palate: A rich sweetness reminding of raisins and figs, some pear compote and apricot, some spices, and subtle toasty savory notes Finish: Lingering spices with a warm finish of chocolate.
Ontake distillery lies atop the hills of Kagoshima (on the Kyushu Island of Japan) and is Nishi Shuzo's latest venture into Whisky. With a long history since 1845, Nishi Shuzo have established themselves as a very high quality Shochu producer and more recently Sake. Their first new make ran through Ontake's stills in 2019, and all whisky releases are likely to be exclusively matured in old sherry casks.

The "Tsunuki Distillery Festival", traditionally held every November, was canceled in its festival format on 2021 due to the new coronavirus. In its place, a special commemorative bottle was released for the 6th anniversary, marketed as the "Tsunuki Distillery Festival Limited Edition," which has been available annually.

This is a special bottling released by the Chichibu Distillery and is a vatting of malt from two distilleries, "Chichibu" and "Komagatake", which has been matured at the Chichibu Distillery in a variety of Bourbon Barrel, American White Oak and Sherry Oak for more than 5 years. In 2015, Venture Whisky (Chichibu) Distillery and Mars Shinshu Distillery began exchanging their new make spirit, which was subsequently matured in their respective locations. 10,200 bottles were released.
Nose: Caramel sweetness, some dusty book shelves and a medley of tropical fruits Palate: Sweet toffee along with tropical fruits including banana and pineapple Finish: Ends with a salty finish and hints of tropical fruits.

Launched in December 2019, this is the first release from the Asaka Distillery which is owned by Sasanokawa Shuzo. Established in 2015 with the first distillation in 2016, the Asaka Distillery sits on the site where several casks of Hanyu were temporarily stored by Ichiro Akuto san (with the help of Sasanokawa Shuzo at the start of Ichiro san's famous whisky journey).
Reportedly matured in first fill bourbon casks, only 1500 bottles were released. Vanilla sweetness and refreshing citrus notes on the nose/palate reflecting the bourbon cask maturation with a long lingering finish showcasing the distillery's new make spirit. While a very collectible bottle, it is a great dram to be shared with "friends and family" indeed.

A very unique bottling indeed with the Asaka whisky being first matured in bourbon barrels for 3 years before being aged for an additional year in Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks from Napa Valley, a renowned Californian wine region.
This beautifully whisky is non-chill-filtered with natural color and layered with Asaka's signature notes of bright citrus and subtle sweetness, elegantly enhanced by the influence of the red wine casks. Limited Release with only 1,316 bottles available worldwide.

In November 2016, the Mars Tsunuki Distillery was established in Minamisatsuma City, Tsunuki. The "Single Malt Komagatake Tsunuki Aging" is a single malt whisky created to commemorate the opening of this new distillery, with a limited release of 2,274 bottles.
Vatted from 10 casks, this single malt from Shinshu was matured in the Tsunuki Aging Cellar for 3 years before being bottled at cask strength. The result is a harmonious blend of sweetness from the bourbon barrels and peaty aromas, with fruity notes of orange and banana present in this single malt whisky.
