This meticulous selection process, coupled with slow fermentation, distillation, and careful maturation in first-fill casks, gives Pōkeno Whisky its distinctive character.

This Single Cask was distilled on 30 April 2019 and bottled on 10 August 2022. After a full maturation in a first fill bourbon barrel this Single Cask was finished in a PX Sherry Butt from Miguel Martin, for a period of 6 months. A limited release of 880 bottles.

Nose: Rich and inviting aromas of ripe cherries, Christmas cake, and dark chocolate. Palate: A harmonious blend of sweet citrus and vanilla, complemented by the rich sherry influences. Totara is the indigenous tree that built Aotearoa. From the arrival of Maori, the timber from this tree was used to build waka, homes, carvings, weapons and containers for storing food. After a full maturation in first fill bourbon casks, we have transferred the whisky to the totara barrels for a second maturation period.

Nose: Creamy coconut, sweet-scented sap, ripe white peach, and freshly cut wood. Palate: Bitter lemon, stone fruit, and hints of dark chocolate. Finish: A long and sweet finish, leaving a lasting impression of the Totara influence. (Tasting Note from distillery)

Launched in December 2019, this is the first release from the Asaka Distillery which is owned by Sasanokawa Shuzo. Established in 2015 with the first distillation in 2016, the Asaka Distillery sits on the site where several casks of Hanyu were temporarily stored by Ichiro Akuto san (with the help of Sasanokawa Shuzo at the start of Ichiro san's famous whisky journey). 

Reportedly matured in  first fill bourbon casks, only 1500 bottles were released. Vanilla sweetness and refreshing citrus notes on the nose/palate reflecting the bourbon cask maturation with a long lingering finish showcasing the distillery's new make spirit. While a very collectible bottle, it is a great dram to be shared with "friends and family" indeed.

Matured in bourbon barrels for about 6 years and a further finishing in Sakura (Cherry Blossom Tree) Casks for about 1 year, only 300 bottles were released.

With a beautiful light golden hue and an exquisite balance of fresh tropical fruits, citrus, green apples and floral sweetness, honey wax, there is a certain earthiness which gives way to a hint of saltiness and spices at the back. Did remind us of Sakura Mochi as we were sipping on this whisky! A rare bottling given the time spent in Sakura Casks.

Their own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles with bulk spirit imports replacing their own production through these times.

Please also note that no Box is available. The bottle and seal are in a good condition. Some faded pale marks on label. Sold in "As Is" Condition.

Selected by (and bottled exclusively for) Mizunara Hong Kong, this whisky has been matured in a fresh Bourbon cask for over 6 years and then finished in a Madeira hogshead for over a year and bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.3% ABV.  Sado - the Japanese Tea ceremony captures a variety of elements of Japanese hospitality such as mutual respect, harmony and tranquility. The label has been designed by Artist Kenro Shinchi of Koshikishima island in Kagoshima, Japan to capture the art of Sado. Nose: Mixed fruits, liquorice, citrus and sweet smoke Palate: Orange, spice and christmas cake, with warmest peat smoke and dark chocolate Finish: long with lingering sweet smoke and cooked fruits. Triple Distillation helps to concentrate not only the alcohol in the whisky, but also helps create lighter, more fruity flavours. Having only two stills, we performed the final two distillations in our 3600 litre spirit still, separating the hearts from the heads and tails each time. This bottling has been matured in only the finest first fill bourbon barrels.

Nose: Rich honey and vanilla with hints of citrus and toffee. Palate: A delightful mix of rich vanilla bean and butterscotch, complemented by sweet citrus notes and a hint of pepper clove. Finish: A long and rich finish, leaving a memorable impression. (Tasting Note from Distillery)

The second release from the Kanosuke Distillery located on the picturesque shores of Fukiagehama beach in Kagoshima. Distilled from unpeated malt in 2018, this release is largely matured in first fill re-charred ex-bourbon barrels for about 3+ years. About 5,000 bottles have been released at a cask strength ABV of 57%. 

Color: Amber Nose: Citrus, Vanilla, Honey and Lemon Tea Palate:  Grapefruit with some cinnamon sweetness Finish: A balance of sweet fresh fruits, vanilla and dark chocolate bitterness.

Rated 90 Points/Silver Medal at IWSC 2022.

The first single malt whisky released from the newly built Tsunuki Distillery which was built in 2016.  Distilled in 2016/17, Tsunuki The First has been matured in bourbon barrels and bottled at a natural cask strength of 59% ABV.

Nose: warm toasted pecan, vanilla honey sponge cake, orange marmalade, rich butter toffee sauce Palate: mouth coating, citrus, gingery peppery spice, milk chocolatey sweetness, ginger bread, red dates Finish: long, tingling with gingery spice and walnuts. 本坊酒造繼信州蒸餾所(Mars Shinshu Distillery)之後, 於2016年回到自己的發跡之地 - 鹿兒島 建立第二間蒸餾所 - 津貫蒸餾所( Mars Tsunuki Distillery), 更是現今日本最南端的蒸餾所. 溫暖的氣候令Angel's Share 高達6%, 但變相木桶熟成速度大大加快, 從而造出強勁豐厚的威士忌. 這次首發的單一麥芽威士忌是選用了首兩年蒸餾後的新酒, 在波本桶(Bourbon Cask)中陳年, 於2020年入瓶, 全球限量9984瓶.

聞上去濃郁柑橘類水果香氣，緊接香草和新鮮麵包香氣.

Pōkeno Prohibition Porter Single Cask is a collaboration with Liberty Brewing (a Beer producer located not too far from Pokeno) and has been first matured in first fill ex-bourbon barrels and then finished for 9 months in porter beer barrels which had been first used to mature Pokeno Whisky, then sent to Liberty for their Beer and then re-sent to Pokeno for the finishing. A limited release of 365 bottles worldwide.

While Porters (so called because they were popular with Porters back in the 18th century in London) and Stouts are both dark beers, Porters use malted barley and stouts use unmalted roasted barley. The Prohibition Porter Beer with an ABV of ~ 12% is a dark beer aged in ex-Bourbon Barrels. Product description from the Liberty Brewing website "While insipid bootlegged ales were axed by the pious, sly grog shops and speakeasies continued to serve the good stuff. Those in the know indulged in tipples made all the more sweet by their illicit nature, like this richly textured Prohibition Porter. Secreted in charred oak bourbon barrels it envelopes your tastebuds in chocolatey brown malts before steamrollering them with a heady amalgam of oak and caramel."
