This specific bottling is the fourth release of the Yamazaki Bourbon Barrel, following earlier editions in 2011 (2 releases) and 2012 (3rd release).

This Yamazaki single malt is one of Yamazaki 2020 limited edition series released in Nov. 2020. The Puncheon Casks,  coopered by Suntory are larger than the usual ex-bourbon barrels sized at 480 litres and made of high quality American oak. A limited release of 2021 and part of the Tsukuriwake selection, this Hakushu bottling has been matured in Spanish Oak. Only 300 bottles were made available in Japan followed by an undisclosed number for worldwide markets. Nose: Cacao, Manuka Honey, Dark Chocolate. Palate: Soft sweetness interlaced with a hint of drak chocolate bitterness. Finish: smooth and again some dark chocolate notes.

Most of the malt in this bottling reportedly came from the Yamazaki Distillery combined with grain whisky.
