Akkeshi Single Malt Japanese Whisky “Risshu” (立秋), meaning “the beginning of autumn,” marks the 20th edition in the Nijushisekki (Twenty-Four Solar Terms) series from Hokkaido’s Akkeshi Distillery.

"A pale moon quietly sees off the passing summer, reflected on the surface of Lake Akkeshi, and the Perseid meteor shower dances down on the night. Akkeshi malt, aged for many years, exudes a citrus aroma with a soft peaty flavor. The key malt is undiluted malt from Mizunara oak barrels produced in Hokkaido. Enjoy the opening of the final chapter of the 24 solar terms." (From Distillery)

Nose: Peach and apricot compote, vanilla accompanying custard pudding, black sugar syrup, dried persimmons, a soft smoky aroma like a bonfire Palate: Lemon cake, orange macaron, a light acidity reminiscent of ramune soda Finish: Coarsely ground black pepper, a savory spiciness like ginger soy sauce, a lingering sweetness of lemon candy. Phenol: Medium (10-30 ppm or more)
