"Tamashii" is Soul  or Spirit in Japanese. Bottled by Mizunara for its 4th anniversary, matured in refill bourbon barrel. Subtle peat smoke, charcoal ash & earthy notes combined with sweet vanilla, honey, citrus and fresh tropical fruits like banana. Vanilla sweetness combined with a saltiness that finally gives way to peppery notes and spices such as cloves and hints of dark chocolate. Nice long and complex finish.

A limited release of 251 bottles worldwide with the label designed by a Japanese artist Kenro Shinchi. WhiskyFun rated 85 points (SGP 564) Extract "Mouth (neat): it’s really good, I’d almost call this ‘good thin peat’. Limoncello, oysters, ashes, riesling, mercurochrome ...With water: same, while the body got bigger rather than thinner once water’s been added. Comments: very good for sure, just rather ‘hesitating’."

The label features the Pica Serica, a symbol of good fortune and auspiciousness. In Chinese culture, these charming birds are seen as messengers of good news, embodying hope and blessings.

This lovely peat smoke whisky promises a unique and memorable tasting experience.

Color: Gold Nose: Vibrant aroma with sweet smoke, a subtle hint of ash alongside some toffee, zesty and buttery lemon tart Palate: A mix of some lightly smoked orchard fruits with hints of dried fruit, seaweed and spices. Add some water and caramel sweetness kicks  in with some barbecued honey bacon Finish: Some spices and subtle smoke at the back end.

This bottling has been at the forefront of growth of Japanese Whisky. This Single Malt Whisky from Suntory has been winning several awards from the early years of 2003, 2010 - ISC Gold; 2009, 2013 - SWSC Double Gold, 2011 - IWSC Gold (best in class). With a beautiful golden hue, the palate brings out fresh tropical fruits, spices such as cloves & cinnamon, a hint of coconut (perhaps coming from the Mizunara Oak matured components of this whisky) with a long finish.

"Sado - The Guest". This is a Single Cask (#129/2013) bottling exclusively for Mizunara, Hong Kong. Bottled in November 2020 with 254 bottles released, this has been matured in a fresh bourbon barrel for nearly seven years and then finished in a Pedro Ximenez hogshead for over ten months. A Nose of citrus fruits and raisins and a Palate of mixed fruits, salted caramel and dry spice with peat smoke at the back end, the Finish is long with rich fruits, lots of spices like cloves and cardamom along with dry smoke. 

This bottling represents a continuation of the story of SADO, from Mizunara's previous Single Cask bottling (767/2011 label focusing on the HOST) and this time around focuses on the GUEST, both of whom share mutual respect during a Japanese Tea Ceremony ("SADO"). The label for both the bottles were designed by Kenro Shinchi, an artist based out of Koshikishima Island in Kagoshima, Japan.

Only 251 bottles were released. Nose: Fresh green fruits, pear, crunchy apple, caramel, honey and plums Taste: Initial sweetness is balanced with fruity plum and some hot spices Finish: Spices, hint of cardamom and black tea with a warming finish (medium- long).

Taste: Candied sweetness, Some nuttiness followed by salted caramel and spices. Finish: Long with warm spices like cloves and cinnamon.

We would highly recommend to add water to see how this whisky evolves beautifully with enhanced citrus and sweet mandarin notes combined with some baked tarts balanced with some minerality and saltiness. A very enjoyable whisky indeed.

This Hibiki Blender's Choice released around September 2018, soon after the Hibiki 17 was discontinued, this is rumoured to/believed to be the "replacement". A harmonious blend of Japanese malt and grain whiskies from Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita presented in the traditional Hibiki 24 faceted bottle and reportedly aged between 12 and 30 years with an average age of around 15 years.

About 5,000 bottles have been released at a cask strength ABV of 57%. 

Color: Amber Nose: Citrus, Vanilla, Honey and Lemon Tea Palate:  Grapefruit with some cinnamon sweetness Finish: A balance of sweet fresh fruits, vanilla and dark chocolate bitterness.

"Artist Edition #004", draws inspiration from “Metal (Gon)” and KANOSUKE's signature three pot stills to create a complex vatting of diverse unpeated spirits. At its core lies a lush, fruity spirit from Kanosuke's Spirits Still 2 (SS2), elevated by the rare depth of triple-distilled bourbon barrel spirit. Kanosuke Distillery located on the picturesque shores of Fukiagehama beach in Kagoshima was established in 2017 and started its operations in 2018. Owned by Komasa Jyozo one of the Shochu producers in Japan, this is the first Single Malt released by this new distillery. Unpeated malt distilled using all 3 of their pot stills and aged in a variety of oak barrels (re-charred American white oak ex-“Mellowed Kozuru” aged shochu casks being the main component of casks used) for about 3 years with about 15,000 bottles being released at a cask strength ABV of 58%. Color: Amber Nose: Very present Oak notes along with some sweet lime, orange marmlade, toffee and an overlay of smoke Palate:  Woody, vanilla, cinnamon along with some spiciness Finish: Bitter sweetness of chocolate-covered candied orange peel and some dryness.

The label has been designed by Artist Kenro Shinchi of Koshikishima island in Kagoshima, Japan to capture the art of Sado. Nose: Mixed fruits, liquorice, citrus and sweet smoke Palate: Orange, spice and christmas cake, with warmest peat smoke and dark chocolate Finish: long with lingering sweet smoke and cooked fruits.
