The success of The Balvenie's TUN 1401 series meant that a bigger vat was needed, and in came TUN 1509. Kawasaki distillery was owned by Mercian Corporation, also the owners of the Karuizawa Distillery, which focused on Malt whisky, while Kawasaki focused on Grain whisky. Located in Kawasaki Prefecture between Tokyo and Yokohama, Kawasaki Distillery used 90% corn and 10% malted barley in Refill Sherry Butts and Demerara Rum casks. Mercian became a part of Kirin Holdings in the 2000s and Karuizawa and Kawasaki were both closed. After being closed, most of inventory of casks were stored in the Yamanashi warehouse and bought by Mr. Ichiro Akuto in 2006.

This Bruichladdich 25 years is a very special edition originally released for the Travel Retail market. An unpeated Islay Single Malt whisky with complex maturation (executed in collaboration with winemaker Jan Pettersen) which includes Oloroso Sherry and PX (Pedro Ximinez) Sherry Casks. Finding a Bruichladdich matured in Sherry Casks is quite unusual since the new make is fairly delicate and floral and the folks at Bruichladdich are extra careful that the maturation in Sherry Casks should not overpower these distillery characteristics.
