Palate: Brown sugar and malty sweetness then orange peel, citrus, dark chocolate and waves of sherry sweetness. Finish: Chocolate coated raisins, oak smoke, mixed spices and lasting PX sweetness. Nose : Lemon zest, vanilla and distinct coastal influence give way to floral intensity, juicy peaches, pears, and wafts of rich spices. Palate : Bursts of tropical fruit and dried sultanas, warming smoke and waves of honey, malt, butterscotch and rich sweetness. Finish : Sherry-soaked fruit, cracked black pepper and sea salt. Kilchoman Machir Bay Cask Strength 2025 is a limited-edition, higher-proof version of Machir Bay Islay single malt. It is bottled at full cask strength rather than the regular 46% ABV, designed to deliver more intense coastal peat smoke. 

Kilchoman Founder Anthony Wills wrote: “One of my favourite whiskies we have released, it has everything I love about Kilchoman spirit, with a little extra punch. There will be a lot of happy Kilchoman fans seeing the Machir Bay Cask Strength back on shelves.” 

Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose is bold and smoky, with sweet vanilla and caramel from the bourbon barrels, layered with citrus and tropical fruit, and hints of floral and mineral complexity.
Palate: On the palate, it is full-bodied and warming, with creamy malt sweetness balancing maritime peat smoke, fresh and candied citrus, toffee, and subtle spice.
Finish: This finish is long and lingering, with smoke gradually giving way to vanilla, toasted coconut, and a soft saline note. (From the Distillery)

Tasting Note: Nose: Vanilla, tropical fruits, fresh hay and toasted oak with grassy notes and salted butter. Palate: Milk chocolate, salted caramel and fresh peat smoke with candied citrus fruits, lemon, ripe pear, and hints of white pepper. This whisky released in Jan 2023 has been distilled using a combination of their 3 pot stills and aged in re-charred American white oak ex-“Mellowed Kozuru” aged SHOCHU casks. Kanosuke Distillery is located on the picturesque shores of Fukiagehama beach in Kagoshima was established in 2017 and started its operations in 2018. The Whisky Distillery is owned by Komasa Jyozo, one of the Shochu producers in Japan and currently counts Diageo as one its shareholders (via Distill Ventures, Diageo's Drinks Accelerator).

Alchemy Single Malt Whisky is a new core range release from New Zealand’s Pōkeno Distillery. “Alchemy” expresses a magical process of creation and transformation, where carefully selected elements are combined to create something extraordinary.

Pōkeno distillery nestled in a warm, misty, humid valley protected by the volcanic hills which from which they source their pure natural spring water and sourced the finest barley from three family-owned farms in New Zealand's richly fertile South Island.

This is in fact a doublewood. We have combined whiskies matured in first fill bourbon barrels and PX Hogsheads, into a PX hogshead for a marrying period of several months. 

Nose: An enticing aroma of citrus intertwined with rich, dark chocolate and dried fruit. Palate: A harmonious blend of flavors including black forest gâteau, complemented by the deep, luscious notes from the PX cask. Finish: A deep and lingering finish that leaves a lasting impression.

Yamaga New Born 2022 is a first release new-make whisky from Yamaga Distillery in Kumamoto, Japan, created to mark the distillery’s first anniversary. Located in northern Kumamoto Prefecture, the distillery makes use of high-quality groundwater and the basin’s hot, humid climate, with the whisky blended from spirits aged in bourbon barrels.

Released on 1 December 2022, it was bottled at 58% ABV in a 375ml format, with 3,421 bottles produced. As a young new-born spirit rather than a fully matured single malt, it showcases distillery character and early promise more than age-driven complexity. It is a blend of seven selected casks matured for around 7 months in bourbon barrels. Whiskybase rate at around 86 points.

Tasting notes from distillery: Aromas of green apple and osmanthus, along with roasted nuts and elegant malt flavors, create a delicate yet robust body. Aroma: Butterscotch, milk caramel, apple pie, blackcurrant, mint. Flavors: Silky, osmanthus, sponge cake, cashews, lemon cake, camphor, meringue, mitarashi (sweet soy sauce glaze)

The Yamazakura Fine Blended Whisky is made by Sasanokawa Shuzo Co, a small distillery in Japan. Orange blossoms on the nose, followed by oak, caramel, and fresh orchard fruit on the palate. Easy on the nose and palate, this is a very gentle whisky with an upfront sweetness that stays on the palate followed by dark chocolate in the finish.

Sasanokawa Shuz's own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles with bulk spirit imports replacing their own production through these times.

The key malt comes from the Asaka Distillery (Japan) while the other whiskies are from Scotland, Ireland, USA and Canada (& 4) 

Tasting Notes: A hint of maple syrup and floral notes on the nose combined with a rich malt on the palate with some cereal notes, hint of spices and and subtle smoky aftertaste.
