Highland, Scotland’s largest whisky region, benefits from soft, mineral-rich water and a cold, damp climate. Its whiskies offer diverse flavors—from light and floral to rich, fruity, smoky, and peated—often influenced by coastal saltiness or inland fruitiness. Notable distilleries include Clynelish, Glenmorangie, Oban, Dalwhinnie, and Old Pulteney.

Glengoyne dries its malted barley by air (peat is not used) and traditionally matures in ex-Sherry casks. Also reputed to have a long fermentation period combined with a slow distillation process, this 15 year aged bottling from the distillery delivers a complex sweet and rounded with oak spices and light vanilla notes in the finish.

A 2008 Vintage special bottling from the GlenDronach distillery, matured for 11 years in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks from Spain and selected by Rachel Barrie for the Professional Danish Retailers. With a burnished copper hue and aroma of honey, spices, hazelnut and raisins, the palate is rich in creamy malt, toasted oak, chocolates and honeycomb with a lingering finish of nutmeg and crystallized ginger. A limited release of about 3500 bottles in 2019.

Whilst most of the older GlenDronach range of bottlings are quite heavily sherried, rich and sweet, this youngster stands out amongst the rest of the distillery’s core range. Bold with notes of nuts, butterscotch, spice along with hints of raisin and citrus.  If you like the malty flavours with the boldness of this youngster, this whisky is for you.

A peated Glendronach is not something that you see often though we must emphasize that it comes across as gently or lightly peated. Initially matured in bourbon casks and then into Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, this whisky leans more towards bourban cask flavors -  honey wax, malty, floral, spicy notes and subtle smoky elements. More earthy notes than the usual islay smoke or maritime saltiness while retaining the character of the Glendronach spirit.

A peated single malt whisky from Glendronach Highland Distillery Mizunara The Shop at Wong Chuk Hang has this unique whisky available on their online store with delivery.

Matured in European oak cask for 12 years and bottled without any chill filtering. Whiskyfun comments .... "very good and rather more ‘freshly’ fruity than other young Clynelishes.
