A gentle blended whisky from Sasanokawa Shuzo. Light straw gold in color, very subtle nose and a gentle sweetness, easy, light mouthfeel and a simple finish. A perfect, daily dram in a highball, this blend also includes some aged pot still distillate.
The Cherry/Cherry-Ex brand has been one of the earliest blended whisky releases of Sasanokawa Shuzo, since obtaining a license to produce whisky in 1946. Their own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles and bulk spirit imports replacing their own production.

The Yamazakura Fine Blended Whisky is made by Sasanokawa Shuzo Co, a small distillery in Japan. Orange blossoms on the nose, followed by oak, caramel, and fresh orchard fruit on the palate. Easy on the nose and palate, this is a very gentle whisky with an upfront sweetness that stays on the palate followed by dark chocolate in the finish.
Sasanokawa Shuz's own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles with bulk spirit imports replacing their own production through these times.

Yamazakura Single Malt Japanese Whisky Asaka 2024 Edition launched in May 2024, is a non-peated Asaka whisky aged in bourbon barrels which is the characteristic Asaka style. It has a refreshing and floral aroma paired with a clean sweetness, embodying the unique flavor profile of Asaka Distillery.
Nose: Notes of pongashi, honeyed lemon, and citrus Palate: Flavors of dried plum, lime, plum, and cider. Finish: An aftertaste reminiscent of sake, with lingering sweetness and a very subtle hint of smoke as the acidity fades.
The 2023 Edition of this series snagged a silver medal award in the 2024 Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition.

Tasting notes Aroma: Salted cherry, sponge cake, floral, lemon-like citrus, distinctive earthiness. Palate: Baby sponge cake, cherry cream, good sweetness, good acidity for balance. Finish: Sweetness lingers for a long time, leaving a clean fresh palate.

While sweet & fruity on the nose (with hints of malt and subtle smoke), the palate brings through dried prunes combined with sourness of green grapes, malty notes and tannins with a pleasant lingering finish. A very enjoyable bottling indeed.

This Asaka Cabernet Sauvignon Cask Reserve Single Malt Japanese Whisky was distilled in 2019 from unpeated malt and bottled in October 2024. A very unique bottling indeed with the Asaka whisky being first matured in bourbon barrels for 3 years before being aged for an additional year in Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks from Napa Valley, a renowned Californian wine region.
This beautifully whisky is non-chill-filtered with natural color and layered with Asaka's signature notes of bright citrus and subtle sweetness, elegantly enhanced by the influence of the red wine casks. Limited Release with only 1,316 bottles available worldwide.

Showcasing the unique character of the long fermentation in wooden washbacks of the Asaka Distillery, this Single Cask has been matured in a First Fill Bourbon Barrel (from Early Times Kentucky Bourbon) #20033 for more than 6 years. The whisky is bottled at its natural cask strength of 61% ABV. Unchill-filtered and uncompromised, it captures the vivid, authentic character of the whisky straight from the cask. Only 190 bottles have been released across Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Nose: A vibrant bouquet of fresh fruit aromas such as green apples, kyoho grapes, juicy pear and features notes of vanilla, honey, and lemon butter cake.

Launched in December 2019, this is the first release from the Asaka Distillery which is owned by Sasanokawa Shuzo. Established in 2015 with the first distillation in 2016, the Asaka Distillery sits on the site where several casks of Hanyu were temporarily stored by Ichiro Akuto san (with the help of Sasanokawa Shuzo at the start of Ichiro san's famous whisky journey).
Reportedly matured in first fill bourbon casks, only 1500 bottles were released. Vanilla sweetness and refreshing citrus notes on the nose/palate reflecting the bourbon cask maturation with a long lingering finish showcasing the distillery's new make spirit. While a very collectible bottle, it is a great dram to be shared with "friends and family" indeed.

A rare and old whisky from Yamazakura aged for over 35 years. Initially in bourbon cask and reportedly finished for about 1 year in sherry casks. Specially bottled by hand at cask strength, this whisky is elegant, excellently balanced and rounded yet offering a variety of flavours including crisp buttered toast, ripe apricots with an oily texture and a lingering warm finish.
A very rare bottle to find since only 55 bottles were released in November 2020 and each bottle has been hand crafted by Japanese Artisan Hideaki Kakurai, making each bottle unique and different than the other.
