After the initial maturation in American oak hogsheads the liquid continued its journey into Essencia® barriques, a rare ‘Rose Oak’ dating back to the 1830s, to bring an exceptionally deep, powerful and distinctive character to the fore.

One of 2012's most hotly-anticipated releases, Ardbeg Galileo is made up from casks distilled in 1999, some of which spent their full term of maturation in casks that previously held Marsala wine, imparting sweet tropical fruit flavours to the mix. Galileo's concept celebrates the well-publicised experiment whereby small quantities of Ardbeg were sent into space at the end of 2011 to see how they mature in zero gravity.
About 15,000 bottles were reportedly released at an ABV of 49%.

Distilled in the Winter of 1983 (most likely in the first few months of 1983 before the Port Ellen Distillery closed permanently in May 1983) at Port Ellen and matured in a Sherry Butt for 25 Years, this rare single malt was bottled by Douglas McGibbon & Co in Autumn in 2008. "On the nose, this Port Ellen is oceanic with seaweed, iodine and a character of fresh leather. The palate opens with rich smoke and creasote and develops sweetness with burnt caramel. The 100% Islay 13th Edition was distilled from 2012, 2013 and 2014 barley harvests before being matured for 44 bourbon barrels for a minimum of 8 years. This unique Single Farm Single Malt is the only whisky in Scotland to be produced entirely on one farm, from barley to bottle. The barley was then malted onsite and peated using local Islay peat before being distilled, matured and eventually bottled all within the farm distillery’s premises. Limited to 13,000 bottles. Awarded 95 Points at IWSC 2022 (Gold Medal Winner).
NOSE: Malt loaf, toffee apple, banana bread, citrus, lavender, pear drops, sea salt and hints of peat smoke.
