This is a marriage of the East and the West. Legendary Mizunara Oak Casks which have been unique to Japanese Whisky,  travelled 6000 miles from Japan to Islay and sat in Bowmore's equally legendary No.1 Vaults to finish this remarkable creation.

Originally matured in Bourbon and Sherry Casks, which were then finished in Mizunara Oak Casks for about 3 years.

Mizunara Oak maturation usually imparts unique flavours of sandalwood and coconut. Bowmore Official Tasting Notes (Website) for this bottling. A 1968 vintage bottling from Bowmore celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishment of Stanley P Morrison, which went on to became Morrison Bowmore. Then you have a desert with some vanilla ice cream and all sorts of fruits, mainly freshly cut pears and apples. Great notes of old rum and banana flambéed. Fantastic! This bottling has been at the forefront of growth of Japanese Whisky. This Single Malt Whisky from Suntory has been winning several awards from the early years of 2003, 2010 - ISC Gold; 2009, 2013 - SWSC Double Gold, 2011 - IWSC Gold (best in class). With a beautiful golden hue, the palate brings out fresh tropical fruits, spices such as cloves & cinnamon, a hint of coconut (perhaps coming from the Mizunara Oak matured components of this whisky) with a long finish.

The core expression from the Yamazaki Distillery, this Distiller's Reserve showcases the balance between the various casks used in the vatting for this bottling including sherry casks and mizunara oak. A golden hue with fresh fruits on the nose, a palate of raspberry, white peach and coconut and finish of spices such as cinnamon.

Yoichi is Nikka’s first distillery which was built in 1934. Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru was keen on making whisky which was similar to scotch given his training in Scotland. Hokkaido was a obvious choice was this distillery given the similar climactic  environment as Scotland. Yoichi Single Malt is characterized by subtle peat smoke originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation combined with the hint of saltiness delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process.

Matured in bourbon barrels for about 6 years and a further finishing in Sakura (Cherry Blossom Tree) Casks for about 1 year, only 300 bottles were released.

With a beautiful light golden hue and an exquisite balance of fresh tropical fruits, citrus, green apples and floral sweetness, honey wax, there is a certain earthiness which gives way to a hint of saltiness and spices at the back. Did remind us of Sakura Mochi as we were sipping on this whisky! A rare bottling given the time spent in Sakura Casks.

Their own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles with bulk spirit imports replacing their own production through these times.

The first single malt whisky released from the newly built Tsunuki Distillery which was built in 2016.  Distilled in 2016/17, Tsunuki The First has been matured in bourbon barrels and bottled at a natural cask strength of 59% ABV.

Nose: warm toasted pecan, vanilla honey sponge cake, orange marmalade, rich butter toffee sauce Palate: mouth coating, citrus, gingery peppery spice, milk chocolatey sweetness, ginger bread, red dates Finish: long, tingling with gingery spice and walnuts. 本坊酒造繼信州蒸餾所(Mars Shinshu Distillery)之後, 於2016年回到自己的發跡之地 - 鹿兒島 建立第二間蒸餾所 - 津貫蒸餾所( Mars Tsunuki Distillery), 更是現今日本最南端的蒸餾所. 溫暖的氣候令Angel's Share 高達6%, 但變相木桶熟成速度大大加快, 從而造出強勁豐厚的威士忌. 這次首發的單一麥芽威士忌是選用了首兩年蒸餾後的新酒, 在波本桶(Bourbon Cask)中陳年, 於2020年入瓶, 全球限量9984瓶.

聞上去濃郁柑橘類水果香氣，緊接香草和新鮮麵包香氣.

入口是豐厚的口感帶有蜂蜜甜味、柑橘類水果, 薑類胡椒類的辣感.

後段綿長柔和的朱古力奶甜味及淡淡薑味香料.

A fully sherry cask matured whisky from Balvenie, which is unusual. Each bottle is part of a batch which comprises a few hundred bottles coming from a single cask and hence likely to somewhat different than the other batch while retaining the characteristics of Balvenie's spirit and flavours of rich sherry oak, dried fruits and subtle spices overlaid with a soft nuttiness and a nice long finish.
