This Asaka Cabernet Sauvignon Cask Reserve Single Malt Japanese Whisky was distilled in 2019 from unpeated malt and bottled in October 2024. A very unique bottling indeed with the Asaka whisky being first matured in bourbon barrels for 3 years before being aged for an additional year in Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks from Napa Valley, a renowned Californian wine region.
This beautifully whisky is non-chill-filtered with natural color and layered with Asaka's signature notes of bright citrus and subtle sweetness, elegantly enhanced by the influence of the red wine casks. Limited Release with only 1,316 bottles available worldwide.

A fully sherry cask matured whisky from Balvenie, which is unusual. "Artist Edition #003" is a lightly peated (around 18 ppm) whisky and is the third release in the Artist Series from the Kanosuke Distillery in Kagoshima, Japan. It has been matured in a variety of casks (bourbon, re-charred ex shochu, sherry, and red wine) which has then been finished in Ex-Kokuto (Brown Sugar) Shochu casks from Amami Oshima Islands of Kagoshima.
Color: orange-amber. Nose: passion fruit, banana, caramel, black tea. Taste: Brown sugar, honey, nikki (a cinnamon like spice), sweet summer, ginger. Finish: Rich brown sugar sweetness with a hint of smoke (Tasting Note from Distillery)
The Artist Edition series from Kanosuke pays homage to the Five Elements that are an integral part of Japanese philosophy: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The Edition #001 (Artist Mariko Hirasawa/Wood) and Edition #002 (Artist Yuna Yagi/Fire) were the previous releases.
For Artist #003 the label captures the diversity of Kagoshima through the theme of "earth" and has been designed by Mr. Yukihito Kanai, a second generation dyer of "Kanai Kougei" (which dyes natural colors such as mud dyeing of Oshima Tsumugi, an ancient dye of Amami-Oshima). He drew inspiration from his visit to Kanosuke Distillery and the artwork features Fukiage Beach (close to the Distillery) as its motif.

This limited release bottling was supposedly launched exclusively for the Japanese department store Takashimaya in mid-2020. Matured in bourbon barrels (reportedly for about 6 years) and a further finishing in Cognac Casks (reportedly for about 1 year). Subtle honey sweetness balanced with fruits.
Their own distillation has also gone through turbulent times in sync with the Japanese whisky market's boom and bust cycles with bulk spirit imports replacing their own production through these times.

The first single malt whisky released from the newly built Tsunuki Distillery which was built in 2016. Distilled in 2016/17, Tsunuki The First has been matured in bourbon barrels and bottled at a natural cask strength of 59% ABV.
Nose: warm toasted pecan, vanilla honey sponge cake, orange marmalade, rich butter toffee sauce Palate: mouth coating, citrus, gingery peppery spice, milk chocolatey sweetness, ginger bread, red dates Finish: long, tingling with gingery spice and walnuts.
