Alchemy Single Malt Whisky is a new core range release from New Zealand’s Pōkeno Distillery. “Alchemy” expresses a magical process of creation and transformation, where carefully selected elements are combined to create something extraordinary.

This expression brings together some of Pōkeno’s oldest whiskies, fully matured across six cask types: Pedro Ximénez sherry butts and hogsheads, lightly and medium toasted virgin American oak barrels, as well as ruby and tawny port barriques.

The result is Pōkeno’s boldest and richest release to date, bursting with notes of ripe red fruits, dark chocolate, and Black Forest gâteau. Layers of rich honey, caramel, and vanilla beans follow, leading to a long, luxurious, and fruit-driven finish.

Pōkeno Distillery is nestled in a warm, misty valley, protected by volcanic hills. From this unique environment, they source pure natural spring water and the finest barley from three family-owned farms in New Zealand’s fertile South Island, ensuring exceptional quality from grain to glass.

このボトルは、ウィスキー・エクスチェンジ主催のウィスキー・ショー2020の一環として発売されました。カスク5874からは198本のみの発売です。1994年ヴィンテージのこのウイスキーのラベルには、「常に変化する不可能の世界」が描かれており、これはウィスキー・エクスチェンジのクリエイティブ・ディレクター、ラジ・“ミスターC”・チャウダが手掛けた壮大なデザインの一部です。柑橘系、フローラル、草の香りに、ほのかなミントと穏やかなスパイスの香りが加わります。箱なし。

香り：柑橘系、ミネラル、ほぼアルカリ性で、甘みとバランスが取れている。全体的に非常にエレガントな香り。味わい：柑橘系フルーツ、レモンのような甘みと土っぽさ。フィニッシュ：柑橘系フルーツの余韻がオーク樽のニュアンスと温かみのある余韻とともに長く続く。

Nose: Very sweet, rich toffee, popcorn kernels and salted caramel Palate: hints of hickory smoke and jerky chicken. Aniseed is then present in the background. Finish: Quite a malty finish then liquorice and burnt sugar come through

Originally released in 1997, over 25 years ago, and then discontinued in 2004 the 17 Year Old was a peaty pioneer that laid the road map for future Ardbegs. Beloved by the Committee, this New Release traces the old delicate peat profile note by note and has been bottled at 40%/Chill Filtered. This is the renewed 17 Years Old Ardbeg.

Nose: Fresh and clean , with hints of pine resin, aniseed, sea spray and lavender soap very gentle, very restrained, and rather elegant for an Ardbeg. With water, there is a distinctive, flinty minerality, along with subtle hints of sweet peat smoke, malted barley, and a touch of toasting bread. Palate: A beautiful, creamy texture is followed by a lovely combination of flavours, with aniseed toffee, café latte, fennel and gentle antiseptic soap. Finish: The peat smoke is present, but in a very restrained manner, and leads into a lingering aftertaste with chewy oak, cocoa powder and tar. (Distillery Tasting Notes)

It is Ardbeg's first expression made using an innovative "high-gravity mashing" technique, reducing water and increasing grain in the mash tun to boost ester formation and concentrated flavors.
