A 2005 Vintage Single Cask #1926 special bottling from the GlenDronach distillery, matured for 13 years in a Pedro Ximenez Sherry Cask for the Taiwan market and bottled at an impressive 57.3% ABV. Deep copper in color, and a nose of aromatic sandalwood, winter spice and creme caramel, the palate is full of sweet and mellow almonds, orange and walnut cream with lingering cocoa (Producer's Tasting notes). 705 bottles were released in 2019. This is the inaugural release from the Ontake distillery which has been matured in first-fill solera sherry butts and bottled in 2023. Non-chill filtered and bottled at a very approachable ABV of 43% this is an excellent and enjoyable Whisky from this new distillery in Kagoshima, Japan.
Color: Amber Nose: Aromatic dry fruits, figs and plums Palate: A rich sweetness reminding of raisins and figs, some pear compote and apricot, some spices, and subtle toasty savory notes Finish: Lingering spices with a warm finish of chocolate.
Ontake distillery lies atop the hills of Kagoshima (on the Kyushu Island of Japan) and is Nishi Shuzo's latest venture into Whisky. With a long history since 1845, Nishi Shuzo have established themselves as a very high quality Shochu producer and more recently Sake. Their first new make ran through Ontake's stills in 2019, and all whisky releases are likely to be exclusively matured in old sherry casks.

This whisky is a 2022 release single malt whisky from Mitchell’s Glengyle distillery. A lightly peated malt which has been aged in a combination of bourbon casks (about 70%) and sherry casks (about 30%). Re-opened in 2004 after being closed for almost 80 years, the Glengyle distillery finally came back to the Mitchell family (owners of Springbank) in 2000. Nose: oak notes are dominant, followed by toasted marshmallows and dried fruit pudding, as well as cherries, marzipan and a hint of peat Palate: initially fruity with citrus notes and orange peel, after this: vanilla, butterscotch, honeycomb and digestive biscuits can all be tasted and enjoyed Finish: velvet and smooth with lemon meringue, to conclude, there’s an oiliness and a saltiness that you’d expect from a Campbeltown dram (Tasting Notes from the Distillery)
