Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Started in 1815 when brothers, Donald & Alexander Johnston leased the land of 1000 acres from laird of Islay and this land is now known as Laphroaig.  In 1954 Bessie Williamson came to the helm as the only woman to own and operate a whisky distillery. She had been the secretary of the previous owner and the de-facto manager during his absence.

In 1994, Prince Charles awarded Laphroaig Single Malt his own Royal Warrant, the same year that Friends of Laphroaig was also founded. In 2014 the owner of Laphroaig, Beam Global was bought out by Japanese group Suntory.

Laphroaig has a distinctive tarry iodine note apart from sweet citrus notes which perhaps originates from their preferred cask type i.e. ex-Bourbon barrels for most of their maturation.
